Manipur: Three KYKL Cadres Arrested in Imphal West for Extortion; Arms and Ammunition Seized

Northeast Desk, 20th September: Manipur Police on September 19 arrested three active cadres of the proscribed outfit KYKL (Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup) from Ghari Awang Leikai in Imphal West District. The arrested individuals have been identified as Maibam Bronson Singh (24), alias Ngamba or Thambou, Yumnam Lanchenba (21), alias Naoba, and Soubam Nongpoknganba Meitei (52). The trio was allegedly involved in extortion activities in the Sekmai and Thangmeiband areas.

During the arrest, police seized a 9mm pistol with a magazine, one live round of ammunition, five mobile phones, a wallet, and a four-wheeler vehicle from the suspects.

Meanwhile, security forces conducted search operations in the hill and valley districts, recovering seven IEDs weighing 28.5 kg, 50 meters of cordtex, and a pull-and-release mechanism from Bongjang in Imphal East District.

Additionally, security personnel ensured the safe passage of 213 and 222 vehicles along National Highways 37 and 2, respectively. In a continued effort to maintain peace, 107 checkpoints have been established across Manipur, with no violations reported.
