Guwahati: Manipur plans to grow its passion for the game as it is also known as the Football factory of India. Manipur signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) for logistical and other help to set up a football academy in an effort to further develop football in the state.
The announcement was made on March 22 at the Khuman Lampak stadium at the Hero Tri-Nation International Football Tournament’s historic opening ceremony by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Singh commended the AIFF for seeing the potential of Manipuri players and took satisfaction in the fact that the national team included five to six players from his home state.
“We’ll be signing the MoU during AIFF chief Kaylan Chaubey’s visit on the closing match of the tournament on February 28,” the chief minister said.
Singh urged the populace to watch the games, maintain order and act decently while the tournament was taking place because it was the first time the football-obsessed nation had hosted an international competition.
The state of Manipur has been a dominant force in the sport of football with 43 players from Manipur contributing to the Indian Super League. The state’s standing in sport is anticipated to be further strengthened by the signing of the MoU with the AIFF.
At the opening ceremony, which was followed by a match between India and Myanmar that India won by a goal of 1-0, the Main Stadium of the sports complex appeared to be packed. The official attendance was 29,341.
The youths in Manipur will have the chance to sharpen their talents under the direction of professionals which is anticipated to spark a new wave of interest for the sport. The MoU’s signing is an important milestone in the state’s quest to become a dominant force in the football globe.
