Manipur: Total Curfew Imposed in Tengnoupal District

Northeast Desk, 16th January: In response to ongoing unrest and to maintain order, the Manipur government has taken decisive action by imposing a total curfew in the Tengnoupal district, effective January 16. The district magistrate of Tengnoupal canceled the daily curfew relaxation, which was previously set, and this suspension will remain in effect until further notice.

The move is part of broader government efforts to prevent violence and ensure the safety and security of the region, which has experienced unrest since May 3, 2023. The order emphasizes the likelihood of a breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquility, and the potential for grave danger to human lives and property in Tengnoupal District.

The official order states that the curfew relaxation stands canceled, and the entire Tengnoupal District will be under total curfew from 12:00 AM on January 16, 2024. However, the order does not apply to government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order and the maintenance of essential services.
