Manipur: Two including woman found shot dead in Kangchup

Northeast Desk, 9th November: The Manipur state police have recovered the dead bodies of two unidentified individuals, one male and one female, from the state’s Kangchup area on November 8. The bodies are suspected to be part of a Kuki wedding party allegedly abducted from the Kangchup area.

The female body was found with a gunshot injury to her head in the region between Tairenpokpi and Atom Khuman under Lamsang Police Station, Imphal West. The body was deposited at RIMS mortuary on November 8.

In a separate incident, the police found the body of an unidentified male in Imphal East. The body was recovered at Takhok Mapl Makha Puruksoubi Loukon Palli, and it was deposited at JNIMS morgue for identification and post-mortem examination. An FIR case has been registered for further investigation into the incident.

Furthermore, four tribals, including a soldier’s family members, were reported missing after a mob abducted them when their vehicle was stopped at a security checkpoint near Kangchup Chingkhong village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on November 7. During the incident, an Indian Army soldier’s 65-year-old father was rescued but sustained multiple injuries. The soldier, belonging to the Kuki-Zo community, is not posted in Manipur. The abduction followed a two-hour encounter between armed miscreants from the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities, resulting in several injuries.
