Manipur: Unexploded Bombs from World War II Era Discovered in Kakching District

Northeast Desk, 7th June: Recent reports have surfaced regarding the discovery of unexploded bombs suspected to be from the World War II era in the Kakching district of Manipur, sparking concerns about safety in the region.

Workers at a brick kiln situated in the Laimanai Mamang hills under the jurisdiction of the Waikhong police station in Kakching district stumbled upon two old bombs while carrying out earthworks.

Upon learning of the discovery, the owner of the brick kiln, Elangbam Nabakumar from Imphal East, promptly reported the finding to the Manipur police.

In response, a team from the Waikhong police station swiftly arrived at the site and securely collected the bombs, assuming custody of the potentially hazardous items.

Later in the afternoon, the bomb squad team of the Manipur Police conducted a controlled detonation of the bombs at a secure location near the hill range, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.

This incident highlights the ongoing risks posed by remnants of past conflicts, necessitating vigilant efforts by authorities to detect and neutralize such threats to public safety.
