Manipur: United Naga Council Bars Three Individuals from Public Platforms for Defying Election Position
Northeast Desk, 14th June: In a significant decision, the United Naga Council (UNC) has imposed a seven-year ban on Congress MP Kho John, S. Kho John, and Allyson Abonmai from participating in public platforms. This action follows their alleged defiance of the UNC’s stance during the recent Lok Sabha elections in Manipur.
The UNC, an apex body representing Nagas in Manipur, announced the decision on June 13, which was based on a resolution passed on May 29, 2024, in Chamdil, Manipur. The trio, hailing from different Naga tribes, were reportedly found to have disregarded the council’s position during the elections, where they contested as independents but failed to align with the council’s directives.
Arthur and Kachui Timothy Zimik of the Naga People’s Front secured higher positions in the election, placing ahead of Kho John and Allyson Abonmai.
According to the UNC’s public notification, the three individuals are prohibited from holding any leadership positions within the Naga society and participating in public platforms for seven years. This directive is effective immediately across all Naga units and their respective jurisdictions.
The UNC underscored that the decision was taken due to the trio’s deliberate defiance and failure to respect the council’s stance, which is seen as crucial for maintaining unity and solidarity among the Naga community in Manipur.
