Guwahati: A 30-year-old man accused of raping a teenage girl was found shot dead in Imphal East, Manipur, on Friday night.
The deceased identified as Hemam Johnson was a resident of Ngangkha Lawai village in Bishnupur, Manipur.
He was charged by the United National Liberation Front-Koireng (UNLF-K) with “outraging the modesty” of the minor.
According to reports, Johnson’s body was discovered with a bullet wound on the right side of his head, blindfolded, and with his hands tied behind his back.
The incident occurred just days after the UNLF-K alleged that Johnson had impregnated the teenage girl, who was a distant relative.
The police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are currently investigating.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) mortuary in Imphal East.
