Manipur Violence: Another 3 killed in firing incident involving insurgents
National desk, 2 July: A fresh wave of violence has engulfed Manipur as three individuals were tragically killed in firing incident involving insurgents on Sunday.
According to reports, the victims who were dead in the firing incident were all belongs to Meitei community.
As the speculation over the resignation of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh ended with a high drama on the streets of Imphal when thousands of supporters blocked the road leading to Raj Bhawan and force the Chief Minister to continue his position.
But despite this ongoing protest on the the streets of Manipur the BJP led government is just on their positions doing nothing for the peace and harmony in the state.
Earlier, N Biren Singh accompanied by several of his cabinet colleagues tried to approach towards the Raj Bhavan but was stopped by thousands of his supporters. The supporters later tore the resignation letter of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
N Biren Singh bowed to the waiting people and decided to return without meeting the Governor Anusuya Ukiye.
It may be mentioned here that thousands of people including women have gathered before the official residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh after the news speculating the resignation of Chief Minister spread since this morning.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Manipur Governor Anusuya Ukiye and appealed her for steps to bring in peace and ensure better facilities at the relief camps where thousands of violence hit people are taking shelter.
However, Assam CM Himanta Biswa sarma said that the situation in the violence hit Manipur is fast improving and slamming the congress he said, it is crying when relativepeace has been established in the northeastern state but was silent during the peak of the ethnic conflict.
As many as 100 people have died and more than 40,000 have fled their homes since conflicts between Kukis who largely reside in the hills and Meiteis, the majority community in the lowlands erupted in Manipur in early May over the latter’s demand for inclusion on the Scheduled Tribe list.
Despite the significant security presence in some areas of the rural state which borders Myanmar, sporadic acts of violence and arson continue to occur.
