Manipur: Violent Clash Erupts in Imphal East, UNLF Cadres Injured, Arambai Tenggol Office Raided
Imphal: A confrontation in Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, near Kongpal Thong, on March 22nd, resulted in injuries to four cadres of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF).
The incident occurred when a group of 15 to 20 individuals, suspected to be members of the Arambai Tenggol (AT) group, entered the residence of Irengbam Nandakumar Singh, a 56-year-old alleged UNLF functionary, triggering a violent altercation.
The clash involved blunt force injuries inflicted upon the UNLF(P) cadres, reportedly with sticks. While reports indicate some rounds of gunfire were exchanged, it remains unclear if any injuries resulted from the shooting.
Security forces responded promptly, deploying teams to the scene. The injured UNLF(P) cadres were detained and transported to a hospital for treatment. Medical reports confirmed that their injuries were non-life-threatening, consisting solely of blunt trauma, with no gunshot wounds. The cadres are currently in stable condition.
Following the incident, security forces conducted a raid on the Arambai Tenggol Unit-17 office in Khurai, Imphal East district, based on intelligence received. The operation yielded a significant cache of incriminating items, including hunting boots, four-wheelers, BP plates, helmets, jackets, suspected heroin, rifle slings, tactical belts, mobile phones, magazine pouches, wireless handsets, chargers, tear gas smoke shells, bayonets, swords, stallion boxes, knee caps, AT-Unit 17 banners/boards, camouflage clothing, military jackets, used cartridges, live rounds, and incriminating documents.
Simultaneously, in separate operations, security personnel seized a variety of weapons and ammunition across multiple districts. In Imphal East, SBBL guns, improvised projectile launchers (Pompi), locally made SBBL guns, ammunition, and shells were confiscated. In Senapati district, Bolt Action Single Barrel Guns and bore ammunition were recovered from Henbung village. In Kangpokpi district, Pompi guns, rockets, and country-made projectile launching weapons were seized from K Langhnom and Khengjang.
