Manipur: Wildfire Erupts in Bishnupur District, Prompting Swift Response from Authorities
Imphal: A devastating wildfire broke out in Okshongbung Khunou, a village in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, on the afternoon of February 15.
The fire spread rapidly to surrounding areas, sparking panic among local residents. Despite the village being a red zone under Moirang Police Station and largely abandoned due to ongoing conflict, the wildfire posed a significant threat to nearby areas .
Central security forces have been deployed to safeguard the Moirang high canal area, with Kuki villages on either side of Okshongbung Khunou also appearing deserted.
The wildfire ignited at approximately 1 pm, but the exact cause remains unknown. A swift response from fire tenders, Moirang police, and troops from the CRPF and Sikh Regiment helped bring the fire under control after a prolonged struggle.
The coordinated efforts of the security forces and fire services prevented further damage and restored a sense of relief to the affected areas. Although the exact cause of the wildfire is still under investigation, the prompt response from authorities helped avert a larger disaster.
