Manipur: Young Boxers from state Offer Hope Amidst Adversity

Northeast Desk, 29th February: Amidst the ongoing turmoil in Manipur, two children, Lourembam Anjali Devi and Chanambam Langlen Chanu, have emerged as symbols of resilience and determination. Despite enduring the loss of their homes in the violence that has displaced thousands, they have been selected to represent Manipur in the upcoming 3rd Sub Junior Boys and Girls National Boxing Championship 2024.

Hailing from Moreh Ward No. 5 and Ekou Sadu Koireng respectively, Anjali Devi and Langlen Chanu’s selection is a source of inspiration for their community and beyond. They have been undergoing rigorous residential boxing training at the Sarita Regional Boxing Academy, founded by renowned boxing figure Laishram Sarita and her husband Thoiba.

Sarita and Thoiba’s initiative of providing free residential boxing training to children sheltered in relief camps across Manipur demonstrates solidarity and compassion. Beyond imparting athletic skills, it instills a sense of purpose and resilience among the young participants, offering them hope for a brighter future amidst adversity.

The selection of Anjali Devi and Langlen Chanu for the national championship resonates deeply with the community, symbolizing the indomitable spirit of the people. Their participation not only showcases their talent and dedication but also embodies hope and perseverance for those enduring hardship in Manipur.

Scheduled to take place from 18th to 25th March 2024 at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida, the championship, organized in association with the U.P. Boxing Association, offers a platform for these young athletes to shine. As the nation rallies behind them, their journey underscores the transformative power of sport and the resilience of the human spirit in overcoming challenges and forging a path towards a better tomorrow.
