Manipuri Meitei Association Urges Home Minister to Address Misleading Rally Claims

Northeast Desk, 30th August: The Manipuri Meitei Association Bangalore (MMAB) has urgently appealed to India’s Home Minister, Amit Shah, regarding a nationwide rally organized by the Kuki Students Organization (KSO) and Kuki Inpi, scheduled for August 31. The rally, which will include a protest at Jantar Mantar, seeks Union Territory status based on allegations of genocide by the Indian government—claims that MMAB considers misleading.

In their letter to Shah, MMAB expressed concern that the rally’s false claims could lead to international media scrutiny and potentially target high-ranking officials, including the Prime Minister and Home Minister. The association attributes the violence in Manipur to illegal Kuki immigration and attacks by Kuki militant groups, with ongoing cases under review by the Supreme Court.

MMAB emphasized their commitment to peace, citing their recent ‘Fields of Hope’ sports event designed to unite Manipur’s diverse communities. They warned that rallies based on unverified allegations could worsen tensions and undermine ongoing peace efforts.
