Manipur’s Wushu Sensation Naorem Roshibina Devi Receives Prestigious Arjuna Award 2023
Northeast Desk, 9th January: In a historic moment for Manipur, Wushu prodigy Naorem Roshibina Devi has brought pride to the nation by receiving the Arjuna Award 2023. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh extended his congratulations to the talented athlete through the microblogging site X, lauding her dedication and hard work that exemplifies the exceptional prowess of Manipuri athletes.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his admiration, stating, “You have proved the mettle of our state athletes with your hard work and dedication. Best wishes for your endeavors ahead.”
Born on December 30, 2000, Naorem Roshibina Devi has become a prominent figure in Indian Wushu, particularly in the Sanda division. Her illustrious journey includes notable achievements both nationally and internationally.
Roshibina Devi secured a gold medal at the 9th Asian Junior Wushu Championships in Gumi, South Korea, showcasing her exceptional skills on the international stage.
In the 2018 Asian Games, competing in the Women’s Sanda 60 kg event, she earned a bronze medal by defeating Mubashra Akhtar of Pakistan in the quarter-finals. Despite facing a formidable opponent in the semi-finals, Cai Yingying of China, Roshibina Devi’s stellar performance secured her a joint bronze medal.
The pinnacle of her success came in September 2023 at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where she claimed the silver medal in the women’s 60kg Wushu Sanda category, displaying resilience and skill against tough competition from Wu Xiaowei of China.
