Guwahati: The owner of the tea estate reported that a special tea from Assam’s Dibrugarh area sold for Rs 1.15 lakh per kg on December 16 at a private auction.

At an auction on the exclusive website Tea Inntech, “Manohari Gold Tea” brought in the winning bid. This is the highest price for tea ever obtained at a similar auction. RK Tea Sales purchased one kilogramme of the premium tea, according to Rajan Lohia of Manohari Tea Estate.

Over the years, tea from the Manohari brand particularly its gold variation had been earning high prices at the GTAC and breaking new records.

In December 2021, Manohari Gold sold for Rs 99,999 per kilogramme through GTAC. In February of this year, ‘Golden Pearl’ from AFT Techno Trade achieved a similar price at the same auction house.

Earlier in June 2022, an auction centre in Jorhat sold Pabhojan Gold Tea, a rare species of organic tea from Assam’s Golaghat region, for a staggering Rs 1 lakh per kilogramme, the highest price this year. According to a representative of the Jorhat Tea Auction Centre (JTAC), Esah Tea, an Assamese tea company, bought the tea Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate sold.

The chief executive officer of Esah Tea Bijit Sarma stated that the tea variety will enable them to offer their consumers one of the finest Assamese tea blends.

This tea variety is rare and for ”tea connoisseurs, this is an experience in a cup. Our customers are spread across the globe and will understand the taste and value of this variety. We are glad to be able to continue with our mission to provide them with authentic Assam tea flavours”, he said.
