Margaret Alva is Opposition vice-presidential candidate
Guwahati: Former union minister and veteran Congress leader Margaret Alva has been nominated as the opposition’s vice-presidential candidate on Sunday.
The decision was announced by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar following an all-party meeting of the opposition parties in New Delhi.
Sharad Pawar said, ” We are attempting to get in touch with Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee. They previously backed our joint presidential candidate.”
“This decision was made unanimously by 17 parties. We all believe that Alva would submit his nomination for vice president on Tuesday,” he stated.
West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was declared the NDA’s vice-presidential candidate by the BJP on Saturday.
The elections for the next Vice-President of India will be held on August 6 and the counting will take place on the same day. The last date to file a nomination is July 19.
