Mass Poisoning Incident Claims Lives of Fish Worth Lakhs in Assam’s Bongaigaon

Guwahati, 22nd April: In a tragic turn of events, fish worth lakhs of rupees have been reported dead due to poisoning in Bongaigaon district, Assam. The incident occurred in a pond at Baraisala under the jurisdiction of Meresar police station, raising concerns among local authorities and residents alike.

The affected pond belongs to Shamsul Sikdar, a local resident who fell victim to unknown perpetrators allegedly poisoning the water during the night. This malicious act has led to the mass death of fish, causing significant financial losses to Sikdar and emphasizing the urgent need for swift action to address such incidents.

Upon receiving reports of the poisoning and fish mortality, the police have launched a thorough investigation into the matter.

Speaking to the media, a local resident shared, “At first, we thought the fishes died because of a shortage of water, but after some time, it was seen that all the fishes in the pond came floating on the surface. The packet on which the poison was carried was found lying near the pond. It was realized later that someone at night had poisoned the pond.”

As Shamsul seeks authoritative assistance to mitigate his losses, the incident has sparked outrage within the local community. Many residents have expressed shock and condemnation over the deliberate poisoning of the pond and the resultant loss of valuable fish resources.
