Massive Ammunition Haul in Mizoram: Driver Arrested
Aizawl: A significant breakthrough in combating illegal arms trafficking was achieved in Mizoram on Tuesday when security forces confiscated over 3,000 rounds of live ammunition in Aizawl district. The joint operation, spearheaded by the CID (Special Branch) of the state police and the Border Security Force (BSF), was a direct result of precise intelligence.
The team successfully intercepted a pickup truck at Seling village, located roughly 36 kilometres from the state capital, Aizawl. Inside the vehicle, they unearthed a staggering 3,008 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 16.54 lakh.
The driver of the truck, identified as 48-year-old Lalawithanga, a resident of Zaungtui locality in Aizawl, was immediately taken into custody for the unlawful transportation of the ammunition. The pickup truck used in the illicit activity was also seized, with the entire operation conducted in the presence of civil witnesses. A case has been formally registered under the Arms Act at Bawngkawn Police Station, and authorities have confirmed that further investigation is actively underway to unearth the origin and intended destination of the seized ammunition.
