Massive Arms Haul in Manipur as Security Forces Unearth Hidden Arsenals

Imphal: In a significant breakthrough, Manipur Police, in a meticulously planned joint operation with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Indian Army, and Assam Rifles, recovered a formidable cache of arms and ammunition during the intervening night of June 13 and 14. The intelligence-led crackdown targeted multiple locations on the periphery of five valley districts, dealing a major blow to illegal arms networks plaguing the state.

The comprehensive search operation yielded an astonishing 328 firearms, a testament to the scale of the hidden arsenal. Among the sophisticated weaponry seized were 151 SLRs, 65 INSAS rifles, 73 rifles of other variants, 5 carbines, and 2 MP-5 guns. The recovery also included more potent weapons like an AK-series rifle, an Amogh rifle, and an AR-15, alongside various pistols, underscoring the serious nature of the threat. Beyond firearms, the joint teams unearthed a significant quantity of warlike stores, including a mortar, flare guns, and a large assortment of magazines and live ammunition for various calibres such as SLR, INSAS, AK, and .303 rounds. The seizure further extended to dangerous explosives, with grenades, detonators, and lathodes also recovered from the sites.

According to a senior ADGP of Manipur Police, “In the intervening night of 13-14 June, search operations were launched in the outskirts of 5 valley districts by joint teams of Manipur Police, CAPF, Army and Assam Rifles. Explosives and other warlike stores were recovered by the joint teams. 151 SLR rifle, 65 Insar rifles, 73 rifles of other kinds, 5 carbine gun, 2 MP-5 gun and other warlike stores were recovered…The total guns and rifles recovered are 328 in number. These intelligence-based operations mark a major achievement for the Manipur Police and the security forces in their continued efforts to restore normalcy, maintain public order, and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their properties.” This operation stands as one of the largest recoveries in recent memory, providing a crucial impetus to ongoing efforts to re-establish peace and normalcy amidst persistent unrest in the region. Officials highlighted the exemplary coordination and synergy among all security stakeholders, which was pivotal to the operation’s success.

The Manipur Police has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding public order and safeguarding the lives and properties of all citizens. They have urged the public to remain vigilant and actively participate in these efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious activities or information pertaining to illegal arms to their nearest police station or the Central Control Room.
