Northeast Desk, 7th October: In an ongoing effort to tighten security and maintain vigilance across the hill and valley districts of Manipur, police have uncovered a significant stockpile of arms and ammunition during extensive search operations in the region. These coordinated actions, aimed at safeguarding vulnerable areas, reflect the continued alertness of security forces in the state.

In Wabagai Natekhong, Turenmei, Kakching District, security forces seized a vast array of weaponry, including three carbines with magazines, an air gun rifle, two single-barrel shotguns, a 9mm pistol, and a variety of explosive materials. Among the recovered items were:

  • 14 No. 36 HE grenades (without detonators)
  • A 51mm mortar
  • 4.755 kg of suspected IED explosive
  • Detonators, tear gas shells, anti-riot rubber bullets, and launching equipment
  • Bulletproof gear, including helmets and local-made plates

In a parallel operation, a similar cache of arms was discovered in Chingkham Ching, Thoubal District, reinforcing the region’s heightened security measures.

In addition to these seizures, security forces also ensured the safe movement of 349 vehicles transporting essential supplies along National Highway 2. Convoys were provided for sensitive stretches, securing the transit of goods across districts.

A total of 109 Naka checkpoints were established throughout the hill and valley districts, enhancing surveillance and enforcing security protocols.

These efforts underscore Manipur’s ongoing focus on law enforcement, as authorities ramp up operations to curb the movement of illegal arms and ensure public safety across the state.
