Massive Drug Haul Foiled at Tripura Border

Agartala: Tripura Police have dealt a significant blow to the illicit drug trade, intercepting a truck laden with 80,000 Yaba tablets worth a staggering Rs 4 crore.

The dramatic seizure unfolded at the Churaibari Check Post in North Tripura District, strategically located near the Assam border.

Acting on precise intelligence, officers detained the suspicious vehicle as it crossed into Tripura, unearthing the concealed contraband meticulously packed into eight separate packets.

North District Superintendent of Police, Avinash Rai, lauded the operation, reiterating its alignment with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s ambitious “Nasha Mukti Tripura” initiative.

He further emphasised that this successful interception directly stems from directives issued by the Director General of Police, underscoring the state’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the pervasive drug menace.

This crackdown forms a crucial part of broader, concerted efforts to curtail the rampant flow of narcotics across the region.

One individual, identified as 24-year-old Sanjay Sahani, a resident of Tripura, was promptly apprehended in connection with this brazen smuggling attempt.

Authorities have initiated extensive investigations, determined to unearth and dismantle further links within this insidious drug network.

The police spokesperson confirmed Sahani’s arrest, stating, “We have arrested one person who is the driver of the vehicle identified as Sanjay Sahani (24), a resident of Tripura, with the smuggling attempt. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further links in the drug network.”

This incident starkly highlights the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing drug trafficking across India’s northeastern states.

The Tripura Police remain steadfast in their vigilance and dedication to dismantling these criminal enterprises, operating resolutely under the state’s comprehensive anti-drug initiatives.
