Massive Drug Haul in Assam as Police Net Nearly 1,500 kg in Swift Operations
Guwahati: In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade, Assam Police have successfully intercepted two major consignments of contraband substances in separate operations, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced earlier today. The combined seizures amount to nearly 1,500 kilograms of illicit drugs, underscoring the state’s intensified efforts to combat narcotics trafficking.
Providing details on the anti-drug initiatives via his official X handle, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the achievements of the Golaghat Police. In a targeted operation, the Golaghat authorities seized a substantial 512.58 grams of heroin, estimated to have a street value of ₹3 crore. This successful bust also led to the apprehension of three individuals allegedly involved in the trafficking network.
Further bolstering the state’s anti-narcotics campaign, the Kokrajhar Police executed another impactful operation, resulting in the seizure of a staggering 963.19 kilograms of ganja. This considerable recovery demonstrates the widespread nature of the drug problem and the vigilance of law enforcement agencies across different districts of Assam.
Reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug menace, Chief Minister Sarma emphatically stated, “Our relentless pursuit against drugs will continue.” This declaration signals a sustained and proactive approach by the Assam government in tackling the complex issue of drug trafficking and its detrimental impact on society.
These recent successes follow closely on the heels of another significant operation by the Nilambazar Police, where heroin valued at approximately ₹3 crore was seized, and two women, identified as Manju Debnath and Pushpa Debnath from Agartala, Tripura, were arrested. Acting on precise intelligence, the police intercepted a suspicious consignment being transported via train. Investigations revealed that the heroin, meticulously concealed within 55 soap cases, was destined for delivery in Tripura, indicating an active inter-state drug smuggling racket. These coordinated efforts across different police units underscore a unified strategy in dismantling drug networks operating in and through Assam.
