Massive Drug Seizure and Illicit Liquor Destruction Highlight Mizoram’s Anti-Narcotics Efforts

Northeast Desk, 22nd July: In a significant crackdown on illegal drug and liquor activities, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Special Narcotics and CID (Crime), Aizawl, successfully recovered 1 kg of Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) valued at Rs 3.01 crore on July 20, 2024. The operation, which took place at the CH Chhunga Bus Terminal in Thuampui, Aizawl, Mizoram, led to the apprehension of one individual involved in the trafficking.

This high-profile drug bust underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating narcotic trafficking in the region. The recovery marks a major success in the fight against the distribution of harmful substances.

Earlier, on July 19, the Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department took decisive action against illicit liquor. During a special event held at Bethani Multipurpose Farm in Phunchawng, the department destroyed illicit liquor worth Rs 57,15,800. This action was conducted under Rule 65(1) of the Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Rules, 2022, and highlights the state’s commitment to enforcing prohibition laws.

The destruction of the seized alcohol reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal liquor activities and uphold the state’s prohibition regulations. Both actions emphasize Mizoram’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the face of substance abuse challenges.
