Massive Fire Guts Iconic 130 Years Old School in Shillong, Govt allocates Rs 1 crore to Rebuild School
National Desk, 21 May: The 130-year-old Khasi Jaitia Presbyterian Girls’ Higher Secondary School was completely destroyed by a terrible fire that started in the early hours of Sunday. According to eyewitnesses who came on the scene, the boarders living in the nearby boarding home narrowly avoided the fires and they were moved right away to Community Hall Mission Compound.
After the fire was put out by fire tenders, the boarders were led by teachers and church elders in prayers and hymn singing before being led back to the hostel.
There have been no confirmed casualties till now and the matter is under investigation by the concerned authority as the cause of the fire is still unknown. The school was established in year 1892, K.J.P. GIRLS HR. SEC SCHOOL is located in Urban area of Shillong Municipal.
Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K. Sangma visited the destruction of the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Girls Higher Secondary School on Sunday, May 20 which was completely destroyed by a terrible fire.
Following the inspection, the CM said that the school will get Rs 1 crore through the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund.
“Devastated to see the ruins from the fire incident at Khasi Jaiñtia Presbyterian Girls’ Hr. Sec. School…The school has a very special connect with the community and stood tall for over 130 years. This is a very personal loss to the people”, said CM Conrad.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister interacted with the teachers, community members and students.
