Massive Forest Fire Near Dirang Contained by Joint Civil-Military Effort in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: A major forest fire that engulfed several acres of the Nadipar forest near Dirang town in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district was successfully brought under control on the evening of April 24. Authorities confirmed that no human casualties or damage to property occurred, despite the fire’s proximity to residential areas.

Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering commended the swift and coordinated response that helped prevent the blaze from spreading further. The containment operation involved personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), local police, fire services, district administration, and local residents, all working together to douse the flames.

The latest fire incident comes just two months after a similar emergency unfolded in the Tenga market area of the same district. In that instance, Indian Army units from the Gajraj Corps responded promptly, deploying firefighting vehicles and providing crucial on-ground assistance that ensured civilian safety and prevented significant damage.

Officials have lauded both operations as prime examples of how collaboration between military and civil agencies continues to play a vital role in emergency response across Arunachal Pradesh’s remote and forested regions.
