Massive Heroin Haul in Champhai Nets Crores for Authorities
In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating along the Indo-Myanmar border, a joint operation spearheaded by the Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force resulted in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of Heroin No. 4. The successful raid, conducted on May 15 in Kelkang village of Champhai district, yielded 2.5 kilograms of the highly potent narcotic.
The meticulously planned operation was executed based on credible intelligence concerning the movement of illicit substances through the area. Responding promptly, a combined area domination patrol was deployed, leading to the discovery of 219 discreetly packaged soap cases. Upon inspection, these cases were found to contain the high-grade heroin, the estimated street value of which stands at a staggering Rs 17.54 crore.
Following the successful seizure, the recovered narcotics were officially transferred to the custody of the Customs Preventive Force stationed in Champhai. These authorities will now undertake further investigation to trace the origin of the drugs and apprehend the individuals involved in this illegal trade.
The Champhai district, sharing a porous international border, has become increasingly vulnerable to drug smuggling activities in recent times. This latest success underscores the ongoing commitment of security agencies to intensify their collaborative efforts in combating the burgeoning narcotics trade and disrupting the networks that thrive in this region.
