Massive Landslide Halts Train Services on Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section

Guwahati – A colossal landslide has brought train operations to a standstill along the crucial Lumding–Badarpur hill section, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and disrupting vital rail links in the Northeast. The incident, occurring at Kilometer 51/1-2 between Mupa and Dihakho stations under the Lumding Division, saw a significant collapse of earth, muck, and boulders, completely engulfing the railway tracks and rendering the entire stretch impassable.

Railway authorities have swiftly mobilised resources, with machines and a substantial workforce deployed to the site to commence the challenging restoration efforts. However, the sheer volume of debris necessitates a cautious and thorough clearance operation, with train services remaining suspended until the tracks are deemed entirely safe for movement.

In response to the widespread disruption, dedicated help desks have been set up at key railway stations, including Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala, to assist affected passengers with information and alternative arrangements.

The impact of the landslide has led to several train cancellations and partial cancellations. The 12503 SMVT Bengaluru – Agartala Humsafar Express, scheduled for July 11, 2025, and the 12515 Thiruvananthapuram Central – Silchar Express, slated for July 13, 2025, have both been fully cancelled.

Numerous services have also seen partial cancellations, significantly altering travel plans for many. The 13173 Sealdah – Sabroom Kanchanjungha Express, which departed on July 8, was short-terminated at Lumding and cancelled between Lumding and Sabroom. Similarly, the 14620 Firozpur Cantt – Agartala Express, of July 7, was short-terminated at Lumding and cancelled between Lumding and Agartala.

For passengers travelling today, the 13176 Silchar – Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express, which was due to originate from Silchar, instead commenced its journey from Lumding, with the segment between Silchar and Lumding being cancelled. Looking ahead, the 12520 Agartala – Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, scheduled for July 10, will short-originate from Kamakhya, cancelling its journey between Agartala and Kamakhya. The 12508 Silchar – Thiruvananthapuram Central Express of July 10 will similarly short-originate from Guwahati, with its Silchar to Guwahati leg cancelled. Lastly, the 14619 Agartala – Firozpur Cantt Express, also on July 10, will short-originate from Guwahati, cancelling the Agartala to Guwahati portion of its route.

Passengers are strongly urged to verify the latest train schedules and updates before embarking on their journeys. Railway officials are continuously monitoring the situation and are committed to restoring normalcy to train operations on this vital section as swiftly and safely as possible.
