Massive Poppy Plantation Eradication Operation in Manipur’s Hill Ranges

Northeast Desk, 26th February: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to social media platform X on February 26 to announce a significant operation conducted by a combined team of security forces, resulting in the destruction of approximately nine acres of poppy plantation.

The operation took place at the Hill Ranges of Khudei Khullen Village, situated about 15 kilometers North-East of Tengnoupal Police Station, between 10:00 am and 01:00 pm on February 25, 2024.

The eradication of the illicit poppy plantation was carried out under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Tengnoupal. A case has been registered under FIR No 3(2) 2024 TPL PS U/S 18(b) of the ND&PS Act, with investigations currently underway.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the team involved in the operation. He particularly highlighted the commendable work of the Tengnoupal District Police, led by SK John Lamkang, MPS, DSP (HQ) TPL, as well as the 3rd Assam Rifles and personnel of the Forest Department, Tengnoupal.
