Massive Rally in Manipur Demands Territorial Integrity and Security Measures

Northeast Desk, 28th June: Thousands of demonstrators gathered today in Imphal for a massive rally organized by the Coordinating Committee of Manipur Integrity, advocating strongly for the preservation of the state’s territorial integrity amidst current challenges.

The rally, titled “Manipur Kanba Khongchate” (to protect and safeguard Manipur), saw diverse participants marching from THAU Ground to Khuman Lampak, expressing unified concerns over various critical issues affecting the state.

Participants voiced demands aimed at addressing what they perceive as threats to Manipur’s sovereignty. Key demands included:

  • Preservation of Indigenous Communities: Protesters called for an end to perceived efforts to marginalize indigenous communities in Manipur.
  • Combatting Narco-Terrorism: Demands were made to eradicate narco-terrorism and expel infiltrators involved in narcotics from outside the country.
  • Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement: Calls were made to abrogate the SoO agreement with narco-terrorists.
  • National Register of Citizens (NRC): The expedited implementation of the NRC was urged.
  • Armed Conflict Resolution: Opposition was voiced against disarming or recovering arms before the cessation of violent conflicts with narco-terrorists.
  • Combing Operations: Protesters demanded a halt to combing operations until armed confrontations with narco-terrorists are resolved.

Chants of “Long Live Manipur,” “Don’t Disintegrate Manipur,” and “Manipur Mother Outshine All” resonated through the streets as demonstrators underscored their determination to safeguard Manipur’s unity and integrity.

Notable participants included Meitei MLAs Sapam Nishikanta and Thangjam Arun, who joined the march to express solidarity with the cause. Their presence highlighted political support for the rally’s objectives.

The rally underscored the collective resolve of Manipur’s people to protect their homeland and maintain unity amidst ongoing challenges. It emphasized the urgency for immediate action to address the crisis without compromising Manipur’s territorial integrity.
