Massive Search Underway for Missing Assamese Music Director Ramen Barua

Guwahati, July 23, 2024Assam Police have launched an extensive search for eminent singer, music composer, and director Ramen Barua, who has been missing since Monday, July 22. The 84-year-old Barua was last seen leaving his home in the Latasil area of Guwahati early on Monday morning, heading to a nearby temple. He did not return, prompting his family to file a missing person report with the police late in the evening.

According to CCTV footage, Barua was last spotted near the new Gauhati High Court building adjacent to the temple around 10:15 am on Monday. Despite extensive searches, there have been no further sightings or leads on his whereabouts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed grave concern over the disappearance of the renowned Assamese music director. On social media platform X, CM Sarma stated, “I am deeply concerned about the sudden disappearance of Sri Ramen Baruah, missing since this morning. His absence worries his family, friends, and countless admirers.” He has directed Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Diganta Barah, to allocate all available resources to expedite efforts to locate Baruah.

Ramen Barua, a celebrated figure in the regional music scene, is known for his significant contributions to Assamese music. His sudden disappearance has sparked widespread anxiety among his family, friends, and fans. The search operations continue as authorities work tirelessly to trace his whereabouts.
