Massive Seizure of Banned Cough Syrup Bottles in Guwahati; Smugglers Arrested

Guwahati, 23rd August: In a significant operation, security forces conducted a major bust at Azara Railway station in Guwahati, intercepting around 900 bottles of banned cough syrup from the Tripura Sundari Express. The operation was carried out by the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), resulting in the apprehension of three smugglers.

The arrested individuals, identified as Ashish Kumar, Bikash Ranjan, and Akash Kumar, were attempting to transport the illegal consignment from Bihar to Agartala. The estimated market value of the seized cough syrup bottles is Rs 1 lakh and 57 thousand.

This incident follows a recent crackdown on illegal cough syrup trafficking in the region. In a separate operation in Karimganj district, Assam, law enforcement authorities intercepted a truck in the Churaibari area along the Assam-Tripura border. The truck was found to be carrying a staggering 61,000 banned cough syrup bottles with an estimated market value of Rs 4 crore.

Biswajit Biswas, the driver of the truck, was apprehended in connection with the seizure. These efforts reflect the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal trade of substances and safeguard public health.
