Gangtok: International Taekwondo champion Master Trilok Subba has brought immense pride to Sikkim by achieving an extraordinary milestone in 2024, clinching three consecutive gold medals at the National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.
His victories have solidified his reputation as one of India’s premier athletes in the sport, showcasing his prowess both nationally and internationally.
At the 3rd National Taekwondo Poomsae Championship in Cuttack, Odisha, held from June 28 to 30, Subba earned gold in the Individual Poomsae senior category, defeating formidable opponents from states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. He added another gold to his tally in the Senior Male Team event. Continuing his winning streak, he claimed the prestigious gold medal at the Champion of Champions Tournament in Nasik, Maharashtra, from September 20 to 22.
Subba’s international accolades in 2024 have been equally impressive. He won gold at the Goodwill International Taekwondo Championship in Kolkata in January and triumphed at the Queen Mother of Thailand Challenge Cup during the 10th Tirak Taekwondo International Championship in October, competing against athletes from 28 countries. Representing India at the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship in Hong Kong from November 30 to December 4, Subba secured an impressive 6th place in the Senior Men’s Team category among participants from 173 nations.
Acknowledging the support that propelled him to these heights, Subba expressed gratitude to Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for his sponsorship and encouragement. He also extended thanks to Ministers Arun Upreti and G.T. Dhungel for their co-sponsorship, as well as to the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA) executives and senior members like Nawang Rapgay and B.B. Subba.
