MCA Ground in Shillong Lauded by BCCI Ahead of Ranji Trophy Clash Between Meghalaya and Jammu & Kashmir
Shillong, Meghalaya — The MCA Ground at Polo in Shillong has drawn high praise from BCCI officials for its pitch quality, as the venue gears up to host the Ranji Trophy encounter between Meghalaya and Jammu & Kashmir beginning on Wednesday.
BCCI-appointed neutral curators and match officials have ranked the ground’s nine pitches among the top eight cricket surfaces in India, a significant feat for a venue contending with the region’s high-altitude conditions and limited sunlight.
Maintaining a balanced pitch that caters equally to batsmen and bowlers has been no small task for the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA). “Creating and sustaining quality wickets is especially demanding here, given that temperatures can drop into single digits,” said MCA President Nababrata Bhattacharjee. He commended BCCI-certified curator Peter J. Lamare and chief groundsman Pobitro Rabha for their months of committed work in bringing the pitches to a high standard.
The Meghalaya squad is looking to break their winless streak in this Elite Group A match after three losses. Their batting lineup showed resilience in their last game, posting an impressive 461 runs across two innings. Their opponents, Jammu & Kashmir, will enter the match with confidence following a commanding innings win over Services in Srinagar.
Spectators are encouraged to attend, with the MCA offering free entry to the stands, bringing excitement to the local cricket community and a chance to witness high-quality play on one of India’s premier pitches.
