Meghalaya: 3rd Sohra International Half Marathon 2024 Set for September 21

Northeast Desk, 20th September: The 3rd edition of the Sohra International Half Marathon is set to take place on September 21, 2024, with runners from across the globe expected to participate. The event, organized by the Government of Meghalaya’s Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, will temporarily close the road from Laitsohpliah to Sohra between 5:30 am and 10:30 am on race day to ensure the safety of participants.

Participants will face an early morning, with buses scheduled to depart from Shillong between 4:00 am and 4:30 am. Runners are required to arrive at their designated boarding points by 3:30 am, with different points allocated for the various race distances. Local runners from Sohra participating in the 20K and 10K races will board from Lad Thanad.

The half marathon course spans the scenic landscape between Laitsohpliah and Mawsmai, offering participants a challenging route through Meghalaya’s breathtaking terrain. Runners have been advised to come prepared, as no breakfast will be provided, though cloakrooms will be available at the finish line for storing personal belongings.

The marathon aims to promote tourism and athleticism in the region, and local organizations have rallied to support the event. Organizers are working to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all runners as the international sporting event grows in popularity.
