Meghalaya: Accused in Shillong Gang Rape Case Files Complaint, Alleging Assault by Victim

Northeast Desk, 1st May: A startling turn of events unfolded in the Shillong gang rape case as one of the accused, who was previously on the run, lodged a complaint alleging that he was sexually assaulted by the victim, police revealed.

Last week, three of his associates were apprehended in connection with the gang rape, while he remained evasive. Following the grant of anticipatory bail in the gang rape case, he took the unusual step of filing a complaint against the victim.

East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi disclosed, “One of the accused persons was a minor at the time of the crime, and he has filed a complaint at Rynjah police station against the woman, alleging he was sexually assaulted by her on that day.”

Consequently, authorities registered an FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and IPC, launching an investigation into the matter.

The incident came to light after a video purportedly depicting the gang rape circulated on WhatsApp, prompting the victim, a YouTuber with a significant online following, to file a police complaint on April 20.

The woman, renowned in gaming circles with 75,000 YouTube subscribers and 1 lakh Instagram followers, recounted her ordeal to a local news channel, alleging drugging and gang rape by her longtime friend, who is also a gamer.

All three accused were apprehended from the East Jaintia Hills district, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the harrowing incident.
