Meghalaya Administration to Return Body of Forest Guard after Post-Mortem
Guwahati: The Assam-Meghalaya border firing incident in Mukhrow resulted in the death of a forest guard, whose body will be returned by the Meghalaya administration. The administration was made aware of this on Wednesday.
The forest guard identified as Vidyasingh Lekthe was killed in the altercation between Assam police, forest guards and Meghalayan civillians.
The West Karbi Anglong police in Khanduli will receive possession of Vidyasingh’s body.
Meanwhile, The Karbi Parishad’s position on the disputed land is clear.
The council rejected Meghalaya’s claim to ownership of the land.
Additionally, the Assam cabinet expressed regret regarding the Assam-Meghalaya problem.
The Assam Police have been instructed to create SOP and the CBI will examine the incident.
Additionally, a committee of investigation led by Justice Rumi Phukan was established; the body will deliver its report in 60 days.
It should be recalled that on November 22 in the early hours, shooting broke out between Assam Forest Officials and unidentified thugs at Mukhrow under Jirikinding PS in the West Karbi Anglong District.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the Forest Party tried to halt a truck carrying illicit timber. When the forest party workers stopped the truck, they were attacked by gheraoed miscreants who used violence. The forest party turned to firing in an effort to save their lives. Three civilians and one forest guard died in the incident.
