Meghalaya: AICC suspends 5 Congress MLAs for joining MDA

Guwahati: The All-India Congress Committee has allegedly ‘suspended’ five Meghalaya Congress MLAs who recently joined the state’s NPP-led MDA administration (AICC) on Monday.

According to reports, Meghalaya Congress President Vincent Pala confirmed the news and stated that the suspension would take place “immediately.” The five Congress MLAs in Meghalaya have also been served with show-cause notices, requiring them to explain why they joined the MDA administration in Meghalaya without the AICC’s approval.

No action will be taken against the five-party legislators if the AICC is satisfied with their responses (to the show-cause notices). If the responses are unacceptable, they may be expelled,” Meghalaya Congress chairman Vincent Pala warned the reporters.

However, PT Sawkmie and the other four MLAs alleged that the AICC has yet to issue a suspension or show-cause notice to them. “We have not received any suspension or show-cause notices from the AICC.” “We’ll surely respond when we get it,” Sawkmie added.

Meanwhile, the five Congress MLAs have stated that they are “determined” to join the MDA administration and that there is “no turning back” on their choice.

The five Congress MLAs from Meghalaya who have promised their support to the administration are Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mayralborn Syiem, Mohendro Rapsang, Kimfa Marbaniang, and PT Sawkmie.

“It’s not just happening in Meghalaya; it’s also happening in Manipur,” he added. The NPP has profited from the schism within the Congress party.”

The five Congress MLAs joining the NPP-led MDA administration in Meghalaya is “not surprising,” according to Mukul Sangma, the former chief minister of Meghalaya and a TMC leader.

Mukul Sangma said the NPP (National People’s Party) has been in communication with Congress lawmakers since Shillong MP Vincent Pala took over as chairman of the Meghalaya Congress.

“Everything that has happened has been expected. For us, this was a foregone conclusion. “There were backstage parleys after Vincent Pala became the PCC president,” Mukul Sangma stated.
