Meghalaya Aims for Complete Electrification by 2028, Says Power Minister

Northeast Desk, 25th June: Meghalaya’s Power Minister AT Mondal announced on June 24 that the state’s electricity department is committed to achieving full electrification of every village by 2028.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Mondal outlined ongoing efforts to electrify all remaining villages following discussions prompted by Congress legislator Charles Marngar from Mawhati. Marngar had raised concerns about irregular power supply and the status of electrification in various villages.

Mondal clarified that despite a comprehensive survey of the state, a few villages were still awaiting inclusion in the list of un-electrified areas due to emerging settlements and expansions. He assured that these issues are actively being addressed, emphasizing the challenges posed by newly identified households requiring electricity post-village electrification.

In response to Marngar’s specific concerns about villages like Mawhati, Sonidan, Umtrai, and Umsiang facing issues with electricity infrastructure installed under DDUGJY-I in 2018-19, Mondal acknowledged the problems caused by faulty connections and reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving them swiftly.

The initiatives underscore Meghalaya’s commitment to universal electrification, aiming to provide reliable electricity to all villages by 2028, thus enhancing infrastructure and quality of life across the state.
