Meghalaya-Assam Border Talks to Resume Soon: CM Sangma
Shillong, Meghalaya: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has provided an update on the long-awaited second phase of border talks with Assam. After a period of delay attributed to elections, bypolls, and other pressing matters, Sangma has assured that discussions will resume soon.
The Chief Minister confirmed that the talks will focus on six crucial areas of contention: Langpih, Borduar, Deshdoomreah, Block I-II, Psiar-Khanduli, and Nongwah-Mawtamur. These regions have been the subject of historical territorial disputes between the two states.
The decision to resume the talks comes after a brief pause following the Meghalaya government’s extension of the deadline for its three Regional Committees to submit their reports on border issues. The extended deadline is now set for December 31, 2024.
Both states have expressed optimism about finding amicable solutions to these long-standing border disputes, and the resumption of talks is seen as a positive step towards achieving lasting peace and harmony in the region.
