Meghalaya: Assam man detained with illegal timber in South Garo Hills

Northeast Desk, 19th October: A person along with a vehicle was detained by the NGOs of Meghalaya’s Garo Hills on October 19 on suspicion of illegal timber transportation.

NGOs in South Garo Hills, including AYWO, FAF, FAJGP, AAYF, and AAPE detained one Mahindra pickup, which was being used to export illegal timber from Garo Hills to different places, and a person identified as Gulab Uddin from Assam.

The NGOs alleged that the Gulab Uddin is a known illegal timber smuggler.

The vehicle carrying the illegal timber bore registration number ML-08A-0337.

The seized items were handed over to the Mahendraganj Sub Official of the GHADC in South Garo Hills.
