Meghalaya: Assam Rifles Cooperates with Police Investigation into Fatal Accident

Shillong: A tragic incident occurred in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district on Tuesday when a 93-year-old milkman, Jonga Bahadur, was fatally hit by a vehicle belonging to an Assam Rifles convoy.

The accident took place while Bahadur was crossing the road at Nongpoh town.

The Assam Rifles has pledged full cooperation with the police investigation into the incident. “We are offering full cooperation to the state police in this accident case involving one of the vehicles of the Assam Rifles,” a spokesperson for the paramilitary force stated.

District Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident has been seized and a case has been registered.

Following the accident, Bahadur was rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital by the personnel in the convoy and later transferred to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim’s body was handed over to his family on Wednesday after a post-mortem examination.
