Meghalaya Assembly Elections: UDP’s Lahkmen Rymbui wins from Amlarem constituency by a margin of 57 votes
Guwahati: Lahkmen Rymbui, a candidate for the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Meghalaya won the Amlarem seat in the most recent Assembly elections on March 2 by a margin of 57 votes.
In addition to Rymbui, two other party candidates have prevailed in their individual districts.
According to the Electoral Commission of India (ECI), Meghalaya had 63.91 percent of the vote cast.
Earlier at 11 am, the voting turnout was recorded at 26.26 per cent in the Meghalaya Assembly elections while at 9 am, the percentage of voter turnout was recorded at 10.55 per cent.
Out of Meghalaya’s 60 Assembly districts, 36 are in the Khasi, Jaintia Hills area and 24 are in the Garo Hills region.
It is important to note that voting in the Sohiong Assembly constituency was delayed after HDR Lyngdoh, a former state home minister and candidate for the position on behalf of the United Democratic Party (UDP), passed away.
There were about 369 contestants running, and 36 of them were female.
The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) has sent 119 companies to Meghalaya in the aftermath of the election.
