Guwahati: The Voice of People’s Party of Meghalaya, which recently unveiled their party emblem and is running in the forthcoming elections, promised that if elected to power, they would not only rid the political system of corruption but would also start taking harsh measures against those responsible.
Speaking to reporters, VPP chief and Nongkrem candidate Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said after filing his nominations that by clean politics they mean that the party is up in action against corruption. “Vote us to power and we will clean the entire system”, added Basaiawmoit.
Basaiawmoit claimed that the regional parties in the MDA alliance which is led by the NPP, lack character.
Voice of People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawomit unveiled on January 21, ‘winnower’ as the party’s electoral emblem.
Basaiawomit revealed the party’s emblem at the village of Smit about 12 kilometres from Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya.
Speaking on the occasion, Basaiawomit said that just as a winnower separates good grain from bad, the VPP aims to purify the political system of filth and end corruption by implementing good governance in Meghalaya.
”Winnower symbolizes the stand of the party to clean the political system and the politics here in Meghalaya and to fight against corruption. It relates very much with the purpose, objective, and aim of the party,” Basaiawomit added.
He added that the VPP was established with the intention of bringing about political transformation and “clean politics” in Meghalaya.
The VPP president responded to the financial concerns by claiming that the VPP does not have a problem with money because they are skilled at winning elections without the use of funds.
He added that VPP would fight the election campaign alone.
The party has announced 16 candidates thus far and Basaiawmoit said the party will be declaring some more candidates very soon.
