Meghalaya Authorities Issue Warning to Event Organisers Over Public Gatherings
Shillong: Authorities in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district have issued a stern warning to event organisers, cautioning them against holding public gatherings without official clearance. The district police stated that many events, including concerts, are being arranged without involving law enforcement or the district administration, posing serious risks to public safety.
According to officials, professional expertise is required for various aspects of event planning, including venue selection, traffic regulation, parking, crowd management, and fire safety. This requires time and proper planning to ensure a safe and successful event. The police warned that failure to seek prior approval could lead to “unfortunate incidents resulting in loss of life and property, which will not be tolerated.”
Organisers found violating these protocols may face severe consequences, including criminal proceedings and being barred from obtaining future permissions. The district police’s warning serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritising public safety and adhering to established protocols when organising large gatherings.
