Meghalaya Biodiversity Board Bags Prestigious GeoSmart India Award

Shillong: The Meghalaya Biodiversity Board has made the state proud by clinching the coveted Geospatial Excellence Award in the GeoSmart India 2024 Summit, held in Hyderabad. The award recognizes the Board’s groundbreaking work in conducting hyperspectral surveys of 29 Reserve Forests across the state.

In collaboration with Garuda UAV, the Board employed advanced technology, including drone-mounted high-resolution LiDAR and hyperspectral sensors, to create detailed maps of these vital ecosystems. This innovative approach has enabled comprehensive species mapping and forest monitoring, providing invaluable insights for conservation efforts.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma extended his hearty congratulations to the team behind this remarkable achievement. He lauded their efforts in putting Meghalaya on the global map for its commitment to environmental conservation and technological advancement.

In another significant development, CM Sangma recently released a book titled “A Sociological Study of The Khasi Religion” by Dr. Sharalyne Khyriemmujat. This insightful work delves into the intricacies of the traditional Khasi belief system and highlights the crucial role of the Seng Khasi in preserving this indigenous faith.
