Meghalaya BJP: PM Modi’s Election Campaign Will Increase Party’s Vote Share

Guwahati: Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ernest Mawrie professed optimism on Friday that the party’s vote share in the state will increase as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s active election campaigning there.

“PM Modi’s roadshow in Shillong today has become a rock show and people enjoyed the entire programme,” Ernest Mawrie said on Friday.

He further said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Meghalaya, especially his roadshow will help BJP to increase the party’s vote share. We are very much hopeful that, our vote share may increase to 25-30 percent. In 2018, our vote share was 9.6 percent and this time our vote share will be increased after the Prime Minister’s visit to the state.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Meghalaya and held a roadshow in Shillong on Friday ahead of the assembly elections.

The roadshow began at the Central Library and came to an end at the Police Bazar where he spoke to a crowd there. As the Prime Minister’s cavalcade moved through the road, people lined up on both sides of it in response to the roadshow.

Also, some saw the prime minister waving and extending greetings to them. In Shillong, PM Modi also presented floral tributes to three state freedom fighters: U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah, and Pa Togan Sangma.

Due to PM Modi’s arrival, Shillong’s security was stepped up.

More than 1,000 security personnel including Meghalaya Police and Central Armed Police Forces were deployed in the route of the roadshow and Police Bazar point in Shillong.

This time BJP is contesting in all 60 seats in Meghalaya. The Meghalaya assembly polls will be held on February 27 along with Nagaland and the counting of votes will take place on March 2.
