Meghalaya Boosts Rural Healthcare with New Rural Health Centre Inauguration
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has inaugurated a new Rural Health Centre (RHC) at Myriaw in Eastern West Khasi Hills district, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to improve rural healthcare.
The RHC, which will cover 21 villages, has been sanctioned Rs 38.8 lakh under the CM’s Special Development Fund, with an additional Rs 38 lakh allocated for its development.
During the inauguration, CM Sangma emphasized the challenges faced by the health sector in Meghalaya, highlighting the government’s commitment to transforming the sector through infrastructure reforms. He noted that healthcare has become more accessible to rural populations over the past seven years, with the state government allocating 9% of its budget to the health sector, the highest in the country.
The Myriaw RHC is managed by Dr. H G Roberts Hospital, Shillong, and is the fourth such RHC run by the hospital in the state. CM Sangma stressed the importance of collaboration between the government, community, and organizations like Dr. H G Roberts Hospital to improve healthcare accessibility in Meghalaya.
In appreciation of the hospital’s efforts, CM Sangma announced that support will be provided for the upgradation of infrastructure to offer Laser Lithotripsy services at their Shillong hospital. The inauguration of the Myriaw RHC is a significant step towards improving rural healthcare in Meghalaya, and demonstrates the state government’s commitment to prioritizing the health and wellbeing of its citizens.
