Meghalaya: BSF Apprehends Bangladeshi National in Shillong

Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya successfully apprehended a Bangladeshi national near Shillong’s Anjali Petrol Pump. Acting on specific intelligence, troops of Sector HQ Jowai intercepted the individual, identified as Munna Islam (20), a resident of Kashpur, Senapara in Bangladesh.

Islam had reportedly crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border in August 2024 due to political unrest in his home country, seeking better employment opportunities in India. Following a medical examination, he was handed over to the Kench’s Trace Beat House Police Station, Shillong, for further legal proceedings.

In a separate operation conducted in Baghmara under South Garo Hills and Dawki under East Khasi Hills, BSF Meghalaya successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt. Troops intercepted a consignment of contraband items, including fish, vacuum flasks, blankets, garlic, biri, and various edible items, with an estimated value of Rs 3.74 lakh.

These goods were allegedly being smuggled into Bangladesh via the international border. The BSF seized the contraband and handed it over to the customs office for further investigation and necessary legal action.
