Meghalaya BSF Foils Cattle Smuggling Operation, Rescues 64 Cattle on India-Bangladesh Border

Northeast Desk, 14th September: Personnel of the Meghalaya Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a cattle smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border in West Jaintia Hills district, rescuing 64 cattle. Acting on specific intelligence, the 4th Battalion of the BSF conducted a targeted operation, discovering the cattle hidden in a jungle area before they could be smuggled into Bangladesh. The rescued cattle have since been handed over to local police for further action.

In a separate operation, BSF troops also seized 12,000 kg of sugar from three Bolero pickups near the East Khasi Hills border, preventing its smuggling into Bangladesh.

Since January 2024, Meghalaya BSF has intercepted over 800 cattle and seized 2,310 tons of sugar from various border regions, as part of their ongoing efforts to curb cross-border smuggling.
