Meghalaya BSF Halts Major Smuggling Operations Along India-Bangladesh Border

Northeast Desk, 18th September: The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya successfully thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border, seizing contraband and cattle valued at over Rs 16 lakhs. The operation underscores the BSF’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal cross-border activities.

Acting on specific intelligence, personnel from the 193 Battalion intercepted a large shipment of food items and contraband goods in the East Khasi Hills district. The seized items were promptly handed over to customs officials for further processing, ensuring that the illegal goods would not reach their intended destination.

In a parallel operation, the 4th BSF Battalion rescued 12 buffaloes near Border Outpost Hawaitila. These buffaloes were being transported illegally into Bangladesh, and their rescue disrupted a significant cattle smuggling operation, preventing a substantial loss in revenue for the smugglers.

Additionally, the 200 BSF Battalion intercepted a large consignment of clothing items meant for smuggling into Bangladesh. This interception further highlights the BSF’s vigilance and commitment to maintaining border security and preventing illegal trade.
