Meghalaya BSF Intercepts Bangladeshi Smugglers; Seizes 19 Boats on Jadukata River
Northeast Desk, 31st July: In a significant operation, Border Security Force (BSF) troops from the 193 Battalion in Meghalaya intercepted and seized 19 wooden boats on the Jadukata river near Ghumaghat. The boats, belonging to Bangladeshi smugglers, were attempting to cross into Indian territory to collect stone boulders and sand.
According to a BSF statement, the seized boats were handed over to the Customs office in Dangar. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of Bangladeshi miscreants frequently infiltrating Indian territory, a concern that the BSF has raised with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) over illegal activities.
Just a day earlier, on July 29, a battalion commandant-level meeting between the BSF and BGB was held to discuss strategies for enhancing border security and maintaining peace along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The meeting also coordinated simultaneous patrolling systems, especially in vulnerable areas, to strengthen vigilance and prevent such incidents in the future.
The BSF’s successful interception underscores the importance of continued cooperation and increased border domination to ensure the security and tranquility of the region.
